Keep Calm and Just Keep Filming!
Open borders, sunny skies and safety first:
Cape Town has been silently humming since the reopening of borders, welcoming back familiar friends and faces to the best Mother City in the world. It’s good to see production boards gracing our city street lamps again, a sign that season is in full swing. Our dams are full, our skies are sunny and production teams are being cautious. Just in case you forgot, here are five good reasons why South Africa is STILL one of the best film destinations in the world:
- Location, Location, Location: If you’ve been keeping an eye on our social media pages, you would have noticed our #placesoffilm campaign. Cape Town is spoilt with options, from coast to coast beaches, sand dunes, lush forest locations, meadows, villas, vineyards and warehouses for days.
- More bang for your buck: The pandemic has had a dramatic impact on the South African currency which means that internationals can really get some great production value for budgets.
- Fun in the Sun: We’ve had an incredible rainy season which means that we are literally cool for the summer. Our summers are not only beautiful, but they also offer up to 16 hours of daylight meaning longer production hours and days.
- Skilled Crew: You can’t keep a good crew down, especially after months or work worry. Our crew members are world-class and ready to start flexing those production muscles again. #blessed
- Safety Guidelines: The City of Cape Town and CPA have worked hard throughout 2020 to ensure that the film industry can continue doing what they love best. Only 6% of positive Corona cases require hospitalization with a recovery rate of nearly 92%. Make sure you take a look at our Resource Section for updates on the latest travel and COVID-19 Safety Guidelines:
